Here's the recap of the Miss America news from Saturday night.
** Updated at 11:05 p.m. - Miss Wisconsin Laura Kaeppeler won Miss America 2012. She performed operatic vocal, and her platform is "Circles of Support - Mentoring Children of Incarcerated Parents."
** Updated at 10:35 p.m - Here's our report on a local viewing party
** Updated at 10:30 p.m. - Elizabeth Wertenberger will continue in the Miss Michigan role until the new Miss Michigan is picked in June. ** Updated at 10:15 p.m. - This email from Miss Monroe County executive director Dione Oerther was sent to local pageant staff and volunteers after the top 15 was announced. Thank-you to everyone who has supported Miss Elizabeth this week and for all of your love, support, prayers, gifts and cards. **
Updated at 10:10 p.m. - Earlier in the week, Elizabeth won $2,000 scholarship for placing second runnerup in the Quality of Life community service award. Both of those awards are judged separately from the stage competitions that are part of the main pageant program.

Updated at 9:56 p.m. - Miss Michigan remains among the 38 eliminated contestants. The surprise "save" was between swimsuit and evening gown competitions, and Miss Alabama got that bid. **

Elizabeth Wertenberger did not take top 15 at Miss America. **
Update at 9:09 p.m. Elizabeth Wertenberger did a shout-out to American-made cars during the pre-recorded introductions.

Miss America Telecast: 9 to 11 tonight on ABC. 

TV program order: Parade of states, introduction of hosts, host welcome remarks, introduction of judges, announcement of semi-finalists, Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlan, Miss America Outstanding Teen Elizabeth Fechtel, lifestyle and fitness competition, evening wear competition, talent competition, on stage questions, Miss America's final walk, Crowning Miss America 2012.

This week, Elizabeth Wertenberg¬er won second runner-up in the Quality of Life community service award and also was honored with the Duke of Edinburgh award.

The fashions: Elizabeth Wertenberger designed the olive green and gold evening gown and the turquoise and gold talent costume she wore this week at Miss America competitions. She picked a white swimsuit with gold ac¬cents from swimsuit sponsor's Komplique collection. History of the pageant: The national pageant started in 1921 in Atlantic City, N.J., as a bathing suit contest. Updates over the years have included awarding scholarship money, adding a talent competition, community service requirements and crowning the winners in evening gowns instead of swimsuits. Local history: Miss America 1988 Kaye Lani Rafko is an alumni of the Miss Monroe County Scholarship Pageant, as were the following Miss Michigans: Terri Ann Cousino, Molly J. McIntyre, Terri Sue Liford and Elizabeth Werten-berger.
